There will be three events in the Night Race series this winter (2018-2019):
- An introductory race, fully marked and entirely on trails at 7:00 pm on Thursday 8th November 2018
- The Christmas Curry Chase, again fully marked but incorporating a
short steep descent on steep grassy terrain with no trail. The remainder
of the route is on good paths. 7.00pm on Tuesday 18th December 2018
from the Scout Hut in Church Stretton, followed by a Christmas social
with curry buffet at Jaipur. - Dash to the Pole (Thursday 21st February 2019 with starts from
6:45pm) is an unmarked, self navigated uphill only time trial from the
Ragleth Inn in Little Stretton. You or your pair/group will start at
intervals and have to find your way to Pole Bank, the summit of the
Longmynd. There will be hot drinks and snacks near the finish and then
you can jog back down to the pub for drinks and series prizes. We will
offer guided daylight reccies of suitable routes before the event.
We also organise the Mercia Hill Trial. The next edition will be on
Sunday 20th January 2019. The Hill Trial is a navigation event which is
now in its sixth year. The format varies slightly from year to year but
essentially involves navigating from start to finish via a series of
checkpoints, which might be, for example, hill tops, stream junctions or
fence corners. Details of the precise format and the Event Centre are
released to entrants shortly before the event. You can expect to be out
on the hills for between two and four hours. Training sessions and
navigation coaching can be provided in the lead up to the event, and
instructions to ensure you can make it safely back to the Event Centre
if you get lost are included on the map.
For all races you will need trail/fell shoes, waterproof jacket and
trousers, hat, gloves and a whistle. Pac-a-Mac style cagoule and
trousers will be fine.
