Long Mynd Valleys Update - Saturday 7th

Weather Update

Forecast is for a clear cool day. There is still significant snow and ice on the tops but the valleys are clear (just wet). The roads over the Mynd are still closed.

Kit Check

There will be mandatory kit requirement of: full waterproof cover (including a top with an integral hood), hat, gloves, map, compass, emergency food. This will be strictly enforced - no kit, no go. Make sure you bring the required kit.

There a few tweaks from last year:

1. Checkpoint 5 (top of Minton Batch) is reverting to its original location (at the stream junction GR 409 918)

2. There will only be a single token drop during race - at the Burway road crossing. This is in addition to the start token you must surrender as you start (like last year).

3. There is a new time cut-off at checkpoint 8 (bottom of Ashes hollow after Nils) of 2:20PM, if you don't make that you will be asked to return to the start via the road.

There is still a lot of snow and ice on the tops and there will be no vehicular access to the Mynd, not even for emergency vehicles - so extra care is required, injuries are not allowed! Any escape options you use must be to the East (towards the A49).

The weather looks like it will be quite cold, so maybe an extra layer? Mandatory kit requirements and time-cut-offs will be strictly enforced.
