Mercia Champs Update (after LMV)

Club Championships Update

The first three races in the Club Championships have gone already, leaving only 17 more. Remember you must do at least one race at each distance (except U18s, M60+ and L50+), and at least one away race. The next races are the Cardingmill Canter (Saturday 1st March at 1pm), Ras yr Aran (Sunday 22nd March at 1pm) and Pendle (Saturday 5th April at 12:30pm for the ladies and 2pm for the men). Remember Pendle is pre-entry only!

I’ve prepared the update using a revised system of scoring. The advertised system gave 52 pts to the first Mercia finisher, then 49 pts down for second on. On reflection I think it would be fairer to use the %age method, halving your percentage to give a score for each race based around 50 still. This will avoid unfairness due to the size of the field: on the current system the last Mercia finisher at Clee scores 36 points and the last at the LMV only 1 point, on the new system these would be 36 points and 24 points. Race winners will still score 52 points (or even more) unless there’s a very close finish, but it’s possible that in an away race the first Mercia athlete home might be mid-pack in which case it seems fairer they’d score a bit less. If anyone has any objections to this change please let me know now, otherwise I will score this year’s championship on this basis and not using the method shown on the champs fixtures sheet.

Whilst on the subject of the fixtures sheet, can I say “thank you” to Janice Curtis for pointing out that Windgather is on Sunday 12th October, not 12th September as shown.

There is no update for the green (sprint) or white (new member) vests yet – it’s too early in the season, but a third of the King/Queen of the Mountains races have gone now, so I’ve included the top 5 gents and ladies below, together with the top five and other age category leaders in the overall standings.
