Mercia Champs Update

The league table has been updated with the Roaches results and the nav points for those completing the OMM – the full results table is here.

I now have records of a fantastic 139 club members who have either raced in a club champs race one or more times this year, claimed the help points or completed a nav event to my knowledge. The remaining races are the Cardington Cracker (Medium – 1 Dec) and the Corndon Classic (Short – 21 Dec). It’s time to recover and train a bit and enjoy a few races a bit nearer to home now.

It’s still wide open for virtually all the prizes except the King and Queen of the Mountains which will only change if the current leaders go on to win age group categories (special prizes aren’t awarded to age group winners). The mens’ overall category is particularly close with any of the top seven still capable of winning – but have a think about whether you’d be best served by running or marshalling given that a few of you are still missing help bonus points!

If you want to marshall in one or more of this year’s remaining races please contact Paul Sanderson for the Cracker (07715) 347587, Russell Mapp for Mortimer Forest (01584) 874538, Paul Beeson for the Corndon Classic (01684) 411354, or as an absolute last chance Geoff Sproson for the Devil’s Chair Dash (01743) 791999. None of these are Mercia races so you must let me know if you have helped – don’t assume I’ll just find out.

There is also still a chance to get those vital nav event bonus points: the Wrekin Orienteers’ Choc-O course on the Long Mynd. This usually operates from the weekend before Christmas to the weekend after New Year. There are two courses, a long and a short. Completion of either will gain you the nav points. You just have to follow the instructions on the website to find the first check point, then each check point gives the grid reference and type of feature you’re looking for to find the next checkpoint. At the end there’s a large tin (hopefully) full of goodies! If more generous types can bring a handful of sweets / chocs to keep it topped up that’s be great. More details will be posted athttp://www.wrekinorienteers.co.uk/index.htmlnearer the time. Completion of either long or short course will entitle you the nav points – you must email me the grid reference of the final checkpoint to be credited with the points though.
